Man experiences all these three states of mind
everyday. He is a sattwik in the morning. Rajas
express itself during the day; and tamas during the
later part of the evening and night. That is why
students are advised to do their studies in the
mornings. The mind will be in a state of tranquility,
and the subject matter will enter the human mind
 easily in the morning.

Rajo guna is required for work. That is why day time
is meant for people who go to employment. Physical
work is carried out easily during the day. The onset
of tamo guna or inactive stage is meant for
entertainment. That is why evenings are meant for
meant for indulging in sensual pleasures like
drinking, romance and sex. In order to stifle tamasic
qualities and increase sattwic qualities, our
forefathers advised us to go to bed early, and get up
 early.

The purpose of life is to reduce the tamasic qualities
and tend towards more of sattwic qualities. Right
knowledge helps us to pull out of tamasic and rajasic
qualities. We should graduate from tamas to rajas and
from rajas to sattwa. True knowledge helps in doing
action with a mind of renunciation. True knowledge
teaches the state of happiness in dispossession
 towards your possessions.

If a man becomes sattwic, he will realize his real
Self or Atman. That will be to attain the purpose of
 life.
